Souvenirs

You can plan for a family trip to San Diego’s Safari Park, Disneyland, and Hollywood Boulevard, but you cannot anticipate where you will find your memories, and what they may hold. John Prine reminds us in “Souvenirs:”

“Memories can’t be boughten,

they can’t be won at carnivals for free.

Well it took me years,

to get those souvenirs,

and I don’t know how,

they slipped away from me.”

While searching through your memories, you may find yourself making tomorrow’s souvenirs. The genie may even arise from the ashes of a small fire on a beach where you grew up many decades ago.
