What Dreams May Come

At 7:00 p.m. the performance begins. My friend’s late-night phone call of two weeks back, “You have got to see this!” has me here on Orcas Island, just off the coast of NW Washington State.
“What Dreams May Come” opens with a stunning assault on the senses, and does not relent. Locally written and produced, featuring local talent and offered with the impact of a Broadway musical, this show tackles the collective consciousness of the events of the past few years. We begin to feel both the hopelessness and despair that isolation and world events have left behind. We also experience the healing power of a smile and a helping hand. And here I am reminded of a favorite bit of poetry from Jackson Browne’s “For a Dancer”:
Don't let the uncertainty turn you around
go on and make a joyful sound
As the white lights of the ferry boat comfort me across the dark waters of Puget Sound, these words carry me home.
